  1. I like the structure and organization of Ana Garcia's presentation on Rick Striggins Assessment.

Bruce Lange's presentation on Assessment Ruberics was very thorough and easy to follow and understand.

  2. Well done Bruce! I appreciate the time you took in summarizing Assessment Rubrics so well. Also, I always enjoy hearing about or reading how you plan to apply a concept in your own instruction. I agree with you that giving a rubric to a class from the onset is a good way to set expectations and get everyone on the same page.

David, great job this week! I feel like I got a history lesson with your inclusion of the Latin link to “assess”. I knew nothing about McTighe before and have a good idea now, and your presentation links to Bruce’s as McTighe encourages making a rubric available before any teaching takes place.

  4. David I liked your presentation "McTighe on Assessment". Your statement "He believes that present standardized testing is like practicing an athlete over and over again but, never letting them play in a game" is so true. This whole week at school has been a countdown to TAKS. Teachers are pushing TAKS review at breakneck speed. This statement applies to teaching to the TAKS.

  5. KB, thankyou for the lesson on grading. I think effort has been long over-looked in the grading system and should be rewarded. As in my research this week and in BL's work, it should be approached in the before given ruebrick.

LF, again thankyou for the learning you gave me.I think accountability is so important and a big project at the end gives students a chance to create. The ultimate goal. It parallels my work this week, let'em in the the game once they've practiced enough!

  7. I am really digging Manuel's presentation tonight. He did a great job summing up the topic on Curriculum Mapping. I also thought the concept map was a great way to show the concept. It was concise and concrete!

Kim also did a great job expanding on Guskey and Grading. This was a new concept, and she did a great job expanding on the right information to explain it in the best way possible. The video was informative and I got the idea.

  8. I liked Laura's presention. Even way back when I was in school I figured somebody should come up with a different grading system. I don't think the ones we use now are fair. Laura's presentation show how corrective feedback should be given.
Kim's presentation on Guskey on grading is another I liked because the gading of test should consider alot more than just what was in the curriculum and assessment.

  9. Brant, I enjoyed your presentation this week. It was nicely organized...I love a good list and you had several. You gave a clear breakdown of formative and summative assessments. You brought up some good points in your questions.

Manuel, your presentation was very informative and clear cut. You gave some helpful examples of performance-based assessments which made my mind race with other ideas I could use. I enjoyed your comic as well...that was pretty funny.

  10. Thanks Laura! I do like to incorporate lists, it provides a way to keep things straight in your head. It goes well for my students as well. In fact, I have listing items on my tests.

  12. McTighe on Assessment – Discusses in detail the inadequacies of today’s standardized testing. His comparison of the athlete’s limitations to exhibit his full potential clearly illustrates the effects of standardized testing with students. Formative testing gives students the opportunity to present the entire capacity of the learning objectives.

I’m going to pat myself on the back. I feel that I was given a broad topic that could go in multiple directions. While most topics had a predetermined point of view I feel there is valor to understanding the personal aspect of a grading policy. Until we get to a point where all grading is standardized we have to set up a system that is fair and concise as we see it. “And yes “policy” not “polocy” haha

  13. Though everyone does a very good job with presentations in this course, I have to admit I usually enjoy, sorry "dig" on Brant's presentations (hahaha). I usually seek his out first. He has a way of turning Dr. Coulter's topics into informative list type or bullet formats that are very understandable.

I feel the same way about Mark's presentations, especially this week's on Norm Referencing, etc. Both Brant and Mark have the inate ability to take material, which is usually unknown to me, and put it in a concise and very understandable format I can absorb.
